When we first started farming we didn’t really know what we wanted to grow. We had grown up raising chickens and on homesteads growing vegetables. Some decisions were easy. We decided on garlic first. We love garlic. Easy choice. Then we started our flocks. Chickens, Geese, Turkeys and Ducks. We love our birds and are now proud small scale egg producers. Again, easy because it was something we already knew. Market Garden? Check! We’re open in the summer, circumstances permitting. But other than the birds, our farm was seasonal. Not wanting to sit around all winter We started researching crops we could grow inside. We looked at growing Cannabis or staring an indoor nursery but then we discovered Microgreens. They fit everything we were looking for. A simple, efficient and intelligent method of growing that allowed us to produce year round and bring something nutritious and tasty to the table. A true superfood, once we tried them for ourselves we were hooked!
We had bought a small piece of land for the garlic but we weren’t in the market to get a huge field. we had 20 acres to roam in with the birds but thats hardly enough if you want to grow something like soy or corn. When we discovered microgreens we discovererd vertical farming and all kinds of interesting new ways of growing greens. Being used to outdoors it was a bit of a change but it’s such a simple, efficient, intelligent idea that we jumped at the chance to get involved.
